"Therapy of the Absurd": An Introduction to Play Therapy
Speaker: Michael Whitehead
CE Credits: 1.0
This course is provided by the Systemic Therapy Across the Lifespan Network; find out more and how to join at www.aamft.org/tin.
Play Therapy is an evidence-based intervention method that utilizes the natural language of children to accomplish therapeutic goals. The roots of Family Therapy included children in most, if not all, sessions to achieve the results of systemic therapy. A pioneer in family therapy, Dr. Nathan Ackerman, stated that, "without engaging the children in a meaningful interchange across the generations, there can be no family therapy." Family therapists often get little-to-no training in how to involve children in family therapy. This webinar will introduce Systemic Play Therapy as one intervention to use to start including children in family therapy sessions.

A Daughter Who Needs a Mother
This session, recorded in 1991 by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and digitally remastered in 2009, features Harry Aponte conducting a live, unedited therapy session with a family. The featured family is an African American mother and her children struggling with poverty and a legacy of deprivation. The session is a demonstration of the Eco-System Model, incorporating class, racial and ethnic experiences of both the family and therapist. Mother lacks confidence and skill to parent her children, forcing her 14-year-old daughter to do so. After running away from home to pursue the attention of older men, her actions culminate in a suicide gesture. An experience is created for the mother to reach out to her daughter. Approx. Time: 87 minutes

A Roadmap for Couple Therapy
Speaker: Arthur Nielsen
CE Credit: 1.0
This course is provided by the Couples and Intimate Relationships Network; find out more and how to join at www.aamft.org/tin.
Couple therapy is a complex undertaking that proceeds best by integrating various schools of thought. Grounded in an in-depth review of the clinical and research literature, and drawing on the presenter's 40-plus years of experience, this webinar will present a comprehensive, flexible, and user-friendly roadmap for conducting couple therapy. We begin by describing "Couple Therapy 1.0," the basic conjoint couple therapy format in which partners talk to each other with the help of the therapist. After noting the limitations of this model, we take up upgrades derived from systemic, psychodynamic, and behavioral/educational approaches, and show how to combine and sequence them. The most important upgrade is the early focus on the couple's negative interaction cycle, which causes them pain and impedes their ability to address it. Using clinical case examples, the webinar will show how all three approaches can improve couple process as a prerequisite for better problem solving. Additional modules and sequencing choice points are also discussed, including discernment counseling and encouraging positive couple experiences.

Addressing Marginalization and Oppression in Therapy
Speaker: Una Henry
As conversations around race become more and more charged, it is important to learn how to engage white men in conversations around marginalization and oppression. However, in light of the prevalence of white fragility, it can be difficult to get white male clients to be willing to engage in this conversation. This workshop will break down how to get white male clients to soften and be vulnerable enough to engage in difficult conversations around marginalization and oppression.

Adolescent and Family Therapy: Evidence Based Treatment
CE Credits: 4.50 Speaker(s): Howard A. Liddle, EdD Therapists often view evidence-based therapies with skepticism or trepidation. Some consider these approaches as irrelevant to real world clinical work. Addressing these issues head-on and in a practical way, this presentation describes a modular approach to understanding and using an evidence-based treatment. Using a new training video, the presentation illustrates the four core modules of multidimensional family therapy (MDFT), an evidence-based approach for adolescents. We cover the needed knowledge base, change theory, clinical methods, and desirable during-treatment processes within the adolescent, parent, family, and extrafamilial modules of MDFT.

An Advanced Look at Polyamory and Kink Lifestyles in Therapy
In this seminar, the presenter will describe a sexual ethics model and offer case studies that further explore the basic concepts. The topics covered in this webinar are: boundaries, negotiating and renegotiating contracts both verbal and written, case studies, power dynamics, and kink/poly in relation to trauma. A unique case study in which a client used kink to treat their trauma and become more comfortable sexually will be discussed.
